Activity 1:
1.Communication is an interactive process briefly explain:
Communication is process of sending and receiving messages from person to the another through a medium. Communication is commonly defined as "the imparting or interchanging the thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs". Interactive communication occurs when sources transmits messages between one another i.e., from sender to the receiver or from receiver to the sender.
Communication can be either spoken, written or any sort of action. Interaction is a dynamic, changing sequence of actions between individuals (or groups) who modify their actions and reactions due to the actions by their interaction partner(s). Knowledge , feelings or thoughts are encoded and sent from at least one person and received and decoded by at least one other.
Cell phones, pagers, mobile phones, and electronic mail are interactive communications. these can be classified under three headings:
1. Interpersonal : Telephone and its allied services.
2. Group : Tele-conference. video-conference.
3. Mass : Internet, world wide
2. Definations:
Communication is widely classified into verbal communication, non verbal communication and graphic communication.
Verbal communication:
Verbal communication is the process of communicating through sending and receiving word messages from body to another. Language plays a vital role in this communication. It is thus a process by which we assign and convey meaning in an attempt to create shared understanding.
Non-verbal communication:
Non verbal communication can be defined as the process of communication from sender to the receiver in terms of wordless messages for instance through body language or posture, by facial expression, by cephalic actions or eye contact. It is based on arbitrary symbols, which differ from culture to culture. Speech contains nonverbal elements, including voice quality, emotion and speaking style, gestures etc.
Graphic communication:
Graphic communication is also known as visual communication. It is communication through visual aid. It is the conveyance of ideas and information in forms that can be read or looked upon. It involves visual material to relate ideas, such as drawings, photographs, slides, transparencies and sketches.. The drawings of little children, and a rough map skeched to show the way could be considered graphical communication. It is a systematic planning and realization of information flow, communication, media development and image care in a long-term horizon.
An example for graphic communication:
3.Define the terms:
a. Sender:
A sender is a source with a basic concepts of communication and information processing. There is always a sender and a receiver in communication. At least there is an intended receiver. Sources are objects which encode message data and transmit the information, via a channel, to one or more observers (or receivers). Sender can be any indivisual that can send message from one place to the another through a channel.
Receiver:
A receiver is a source that receives information or message transmitted by the sender. It interprets the information to accomplish understanding. It receives the input from the sender and decodes it and send it as a feedback to the sender through a certain medium.
b. Message:
It is a piece of information sent from the sender to the receiver and vice versa. It is something which provides information
In communication between humans, messages can be verbal or nonverbal:
• A verbal message is an exchange of information using words. Examples include face-to-face communication, telephone calls, voicemails, etc.
• A nonverbal message is communicated through actions or behaviors rather than words. Examples include the use of body language and the actions made by an individual idea.
c. Feedback :
Feedback describes the situation when output from the receiver is sent back to the sender through a medium. It gives communication continuity and indicates understanding and misunderstanding of the information. Therefore both sender and receiver needs a feed back.
4. Perception:
perception can be defined as a process of attaining awareness or understanding of sensory information. It is one of the oldest fields in psychology. It is plays a vital role in communication.
