Well I want to record music at home and have no idea what equipment I need for it.
So I was wondering if you can give me any advice?

Oh for sure. We’ve got a huge range of recording equipment. From low-price to professional hard- and software. I presume you want to record digitally with a computer, right?
Yes. I bought a macbook a few weeks ago. I hope that was the right choice?

Yeah it’s the perfect choice if you ask me. Macbooks have a very high performance which is necessary for good quality audio recording.
So what instruments are you planning on recording?
All I can play is guitar, so I’d say guitar and vocals.

Alright, so that means you don’t need a multi-mixer.
What you will need is an interface though.
What is that?

It’s the connection between your microphone and your mac. It also works as a pre-amp.
Aha. What’s that good for?

It gives you a stronger signal from your microphone. You definetly need that if you plan on having a good sound.
Oh ok. Yeah. So how much is an interface?

We’ve got a few different ones, but the most popular one is the m-box series.
There are different models as well but for your purposes I’d recommend the smallest version with 2 in- and outputs for microphones. That would be $540.
And that is the cheapest one?

This is actually really cheap for a quality product like this. And the best thing is that it comes with one of the best professional recording softwares for free!
It’s called pro-tools and it’d be $400 just by itself. So that’s an awesome deal.
Oh sounds good. So I don’t have to buy any additional programs?

No that’s all you need to start straight away. You can get additional programs and plug ins though for sure. I’ll give you one of our partner’s websites where you can have a look at the wide range of products. You’ll also get special offers when you buy an m-box at our store.

So what else do I need? What about microphones?

Yes, a good microphone and the m-box is all you need to get started. How much do you plan on spending on the mic? The prices range from $50 dollars up to a few thousands.
Oh, well I thought about $300 maybe? Would that be a good one?

Yeah you can definetly get a decent sounding microphone for 300.
I’d recommend a condenser mic. You won’t get a better sound with any other mic. I’ll show you a few.
These 2 are $250 and $320. And I can highly recommend both. The more expensive one might sound a bit warmer to professional ears.
Hm, since I just wanna get started I’d say I take the cheaper one if it also has a good sound. Perfect. So if I get the m-box and that mic I have everything I need?

Well I’d recommend some good speakers and headphones as well. Our partners in the hi-fi department next door can definetly help you with that. They’ve got a lot of good offers these days. And depending on if you want to record synthsounds as well I’d highly recommend a midi-keyboard. You can just plug it in via USB and use all the sounds provided by the protools software.
