1 ‘Communication is an interactive process’ briefly explain.
Communication is an interactive process because there is flow of information from one person to another .The sender sends the message to the receiver and there will be feedback .Communication take place in various situation and interpretations

2. Define and give example of verbal, nonverbal and graphic communication.

The channels of communications are classified into three forms:

(a) Verbal communication means communicating two or more people either oral or written. When the message is in spoken words it is oral .For example telephonic conversation is an oral communication. When the message is in written form it is written communication. For example emails, letters are the form of written communication

(b) Non verbal communication takes the form other than words or graphics. Non verbal communication includes body language, facial expressions, jesters, posture and dress.

(c) Graphic communication indicates relationship, ideas or connections through shapes, diagrams and lines in a visual way. For example traphic signs.

3.(a) Define the term ‘sender’ and ‘receiver’.

The sender is the person who encodes the idea or felling in signs or words and transmits the information to the receiver. The receiver is the person who decodes the message, interpreting the ideas according to personal perception of the messages.


(b) Define the term ‘message’.

Message is the idea or the information which is passed by the sender to the
receiver .It is link between sender and receiver.


© Define the term ‘feedback’.

Feedback is the response from the receiver to the sender. It can be intentional or unintentional. Feedback usually gives the communication continuity and stimulates further communication and discussion.

4. (a) Define the term ‘perception’.

Perception is the way receiver understands or gives meaning to the message sent.Perception or interpretation of message may vary according to how individual’s
experience, attitudes, beliefs, and acquired skills or expectations.

(b) List the four factors that may influence the perception of the sender or receiver of a message.

The factors that influence perception of the sender or receiver of a message is experience, attitudes, beliefs and acquired skills or expectations.

5. (a) List four different types of communication.

The four types of communication are :-
• Verbal communication
• Written communication
• Non verbal communication
• Visual communication

(b) Define these and give an example of each.

The first two kinds of communication are the verbal and written
communication.The verbal or dialogue communication represents a reciprocal conversation between two parties. However, both verbal and written formats of communication are dependent on human language. The third type of communication is the non-verbal communication. This category of communication includes communicating through sending and receiving wordless messages, which are conveyed through facial expressions, eye contact, gestures, posture or body language. The fourth type of communication is the visual communication. As the name suggests, this kind of communication is through visual aid
