Communication is an interactive process’. Briefly explain?
Ans. Communication is about exchanging of information between people, e.g. by means of speaking, writing, or using a common system of signs or behaviour. Communication is important because we use it in our daily lives to talk to people either orally or written. If there is a lack of communication then it will be hard for people to listen or to get the information they need. Knowledge, feelings or thoughts are encoded and sent from at least one person and received and decoded by at least one other. As information flows, people place meaning and structure on the variety of messages received from others, though it is an interactive process.

1. Define and give an example of verbal, non verbal and graphic communication.
Ans. A. Verbal communication can take the form of spoken words between two or more people or written words in written communication. For example sending messages by speaking , talking or writing.
b. Nonverbal communication is sent by any means other than words or graphics. For example facial expressions , body language, posture and dress.
c. Graphic communication represents ideas, relationships or connections visually with shapes, diagrams and lines. For example signs and images.

3. a. Define the terms ‘sender’ and ‘receiver’.
b. Define the term ‘message’.
c. Define the term ‘feedback’.
Ans. A. Senders are those who interpret ideas or feelings in words or signs and transmit it to the person who recognize it, which later on called as receiver, as he received the information sending by the sender.
b. A message is a way of communication between sender and receiver. It is an idea or feeling transmitted from the sender to the receiver to achieve understanding.
c. Feedback makes the communication easier. It is a kind of response given to sender by the receiver for effective communication between them.

4. a. Define the term ‘perception’.
b. List the four factors that may influence the perception of the sender or receiver of a message.
Ans. Perception is the way people understand or give meaning to their environment. Perception and interpretation of the same massage varies according to how each indivisual’s perception is influenced by experience, attitudes and beliefs and a range of acquired skills or expectations. Even the context or setting of the communication affects perception .

5. a. List four different types of communication.
b. Define these and give an example of each.
Ans a. The four main different types of communication are as follows:
1. Verbal communication
2. Nonverbal communication
3. Graphic communication
4. Mass Communication
1. Verbal is a spoken communication. The example of verbal communication is oral communication like talking, presentation and so on.
2. Non-verbal communication is normally understood as the process of sending and receiving wordless messages. Such messages are sent and received by gesture; body language or posture , facial expression and eye contact , etc.
3. Graphics are visual presentations on some surface, such as a wall, canvas, computer screen, paper, or stone to brand, inform, illustrate, or entertain. Examplesare photographs, drawings, lineart, graphs, diagrams, typography, numbers photographs ,symbols ,geometric designs, maps, engineering drawings, or other images. Graphics often combine text, illustration and color. Graphic design may consist of the deliberate selection, creation, or arrangement of typography alone, as in a brochure, flier, poster, web site, or book without any other element.
4. When a message needs help to get from its source to its destination, mass communication begins to function. Usually some form of medium- one meaning of which is ‘between’- is needed to connect the sender to receivers. These media may be print (newspapers or magazines) electrical (radio, TV or video), or even electronic (computer modems). Mass communication powerfully affects our attitudes and beliefs, as well as our perspective on social life.
